This day will be great for all with an interest in the Actif Woods Wales project already, and anyone with an involvement in health and/ or woodlands in any of our current or proposed project areas, particularly those who work with people with chronic health conditions, or who are involved in woodland or health activities. Current and continuing project areas are Aberystwyth and Treherbert. Proposed areas planned to commence this year are Wrexham, Neath Port Talbot and Anglesey.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided and the day is free to attend.
This is an exciting time for the project as we have now secured the Big Lottery People and Places funding, for the 3 year project. Match funding has been confirmed from the Forestry Commission Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales and the Pfizer Foundation, for the first 12 months. We can almost see the project start date in sight and will have some firm plans to share with you next week.
I do hope you can make it for all or some of this day - please let me know if you are able to attend, and any dietry requirements you have for lunch, access needs or any further queries you may have about the day.
I look forward to hearing back from you and to seeing you all at the Morlan Centre and Penglais woods in a couple of weeks time.

We would like to invite anyone interested to a meeting of the Actif Woods Wales project, at Alyn Waters Country Park (http://www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/leisure_tourism/AlynWatersCountryPark.htm ) on August 14th.
Actif Woods Wales is a project to establish woodland based activities for people suffering from chronic mental or physical health issues. See more info in the Coed Lleol project summary April 2012.
We hope to start a new Actif Woods project in the Wrexham area in 2013, and are currently trying to engage as many organisations in the local area as possible, who work with clients with health issues and may be interested in referring clients ot the project (or starting a partnership with the project).
The meeting will take place at Alyn Waters Country Park from 12.00-4pm, with some of the activities taking place outdoors on the lawn and surrounding woods (please bring suitable shoes and clothes for this). A draft agenda is here: Agenda for Wrexham day 14th Aug, and note refreshments and a light lunch will be provided- let me know of any dietry requirements or access needs of those attending so we can try and meet these.
The aim of the meeting is:
- to inform participants about the Actif Woods Wales project and our plans for starting up in the Wrexham area
Please come to our meeting to find out more and see how we could work with you! Please do also forward this message to any colleagues or contacts you have who might be interested in coming along.
We hope to see you there!

Coed Lleol have recently hosted two seminar days as part of the Actif Woods Wales project.
Held in Aberystwyth and Treherbert on the 16th and 23rd March the days were a chance for health professionals, organisations and individuals with an interest in linking health care with the natural environment to come together with some of the participants on the programme to learn more about the approach used and share knowledge and experience, partly in a practical woodland setting.
Presentations included 'National Exercise Referral and the outdoors' and 'Nature connection and wellbeing'.
Some of the presentations from the Aberytwyth day can be downloaded from the links below- Treherbert ones to follow soon!
The 'carousel' of woodland activities in Aberystwyth was particularly well received, and those at the Treherbert day said they valued the opportunity to network with others whilst trying out some of the woodland activities included in the Actif Woods Wales sessions.
Feedback from those attending included some of the following comments;
“Very good to see how health professionals and service providers support each other. Great opportunity to network and ask questions.”
“It was good to network with potential partner organisations, sharing ideas/skills, reconnecting with woodlands.”

This is an account of the first session back after the autumn break- written by session leader Andrew Dugmore
Well the 1st day back into the woods has arrived. It’s late November and there’s still no sign of Winter knocking on the doors. Late summer was the last time we met and there’s not such a big difference in temperature now as it was then.
A quick time check is taken and unbelievably it’s time to return. As we leave, the master beech tree shadows over us, mystery and majesty calls. I’m sure this tree will become a friend and teacher as the winter weeks of Penglais unfold. We walk for home past the holly bush rich with berries and I wonder how many berries will remain uneaten by next week.
