2) What is
wellbeing? The
World Health Organisation defines health as “a state of
complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity”. It is now widely recognised
that physical health is strongly influenced by our emotional state.
At the same time physical activity has been shown to improve symptoms
of anxiety and depression. A state of wellbeing can therefore be
achieved by attending to a spectrum of inter-related factors
including our levels of physical activity, opportunities to
socialise, levels of general interests, our attitudes and vision of
the future, our feelings of social worth, family relationships as
well as our ability to attain sufficient financial income to support
ourselves and our dependents and at the same time maintain realistic
economic expectations. |
