2) What is wellbeing?

The World Health Organisation defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. It is now widely recognised that physical health is strongly influenced by our emotional state. At the same time physical activity has been shown to improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. A state of wellbeing can therefore be achieved by attending to a spectrum of inter-related factors including our levels of physical activity, opportunities to socialise, levels of general interests, our attitudes and vision of the future, our feelings of social worth, family relationships as well as our ability to attain sufficient financial income to support ourselves and our dependents and at the same time maintain realistic economic expectations.
